Project history:

Church of St. Demetrius of Rostov (Demetrius Church) — Orthodox Church in Barnaul. Consecrated in the name of Saint Dimitry of Rostov. Monument of Federal importance.

The Church is located at the intersection of Spartak square and Pushkin street in the Central district of the city.

Built by order of the Tobolsk Spiritual Consistory in 1829-1840 (architects Y. N. Popov, A. I. Molchanov, L. I. Ivanov) at the expense of the resurrection plants as a house Church at the factory almshouse, which was part of the ensemble of Demidov square.

The rotunda Church was built of stone in the form of a cylindrical temple with a round main volume and crosswise arranged small risalits on the sides of the world in the style of classicism. Icons and wall paintings were carried out by the academician of painting M. I. Myagkov. In Soviet times, supplemented by an extension from the North, changing the style beyond recognition.

On June 4, 1920 the Church was closed, and in the following years it housed the "Museum of fine arts", cinema club, sports society" Spartak", the club of the regional Council of trade cooperation, shops and other organizations.

In April 1991, the dome of the Church burned down and collapsed.

In the mid-1990s, the building was again transferred to the Barnaul diocese, work continues on its restoration, so on may 19, 2009 over the dome of the temple was installed cross, consecrated by Bishop Maxim of Barnaul and Altai.

On November 11, 2011, the Church was completely restored.
